Sandiganbayan orders arrest of ex-Caloocan City Mayor Echiverri
March 23, 2017
Former Caloocan City Mayor Enrico Echiverri was ordered arrested Thursday by the Sandiganbayan over a graft case due to alleged anomalous P1.9-million drainage projects in 2011.
Echiverri, a former congressman, is facing two counts of violating Section 3(e) of the Anti-Graft and Corrupt Practices Act.
The warrant was issued by the Sandiganbayan Third Division. Echiverri was brought to the Sandiganbayan’s Sheriff and Security Services.
He posted P15,000 bail which is half of the P30,000 amount after the anti-graft court allowed his request to cut the amount.
Echiverri allegedly awarded a P1.9-million contract to Golden 3T Construction for the improvement of the Saplungan St. Drainage System.
Also charged were former city accountant Edna Centeno and city budget officer Jesusa Garcia.
The former mayor was also charged by the Ombudsman for allegedly giving unwarranted benefits to E.V. & E. Construction for the P2.7-million Molave St. Drainage System from May to December 2011. This case is pending at the Sandiganbayan First Division. DMS
