Sara Duterte undecided whether to seek local or national post in 2019 polls
June 5, 2018
Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte said Tuesday she is open to running in the 2019 elections, but is still uncertain whether it is for a local or a national post.
Speaking to reporters after attending the hearing for her new regional political party at the Commission on Elections (Comelec), Duterte said: " We will decide, usually by tradition, one or two months before election, depending on the surveys, depending on the capacity to run a campaign.”
She admitted she is open to vie for a position as high as a senator, or even higher.
“Vice President? Joke only. Yeah, I’m open (to any position),” said the daughter of President Rodrigo Duterte.
“It all depends on the opponents, availability of funds, winnability. It all depends on those factors,” Duterte said.
Duterte said her father "leaves it up to us if we really want to run for the 2019 elections.”
Duterte she is focused on getting her new political party, Hugpong ng Pagbabago (HNP), registered as a Davao Region political party.
“We need a regional political party because a lot of members of HNP have different national political party affiliations,” said Duterte. DMS
