SEC commissioner quits
February 2, 2018
An executive of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) has resigned due to health reason, an official said on Friday.
Finance Secretary Carlos Dominguez III, in a text message to reporters, confirmed that SEC Commissioner Blas James Viterbo quit for having an "irregular heartbeat."
Malacanang said the Office of the Executive Secretary received Viterbo's resignation letter on Thursday.
President Rodrigo Duterte has yet to accept Viterbo's resignation in order to take effect.
Viterbo's resignation came weeks after the SEC ordered the revocation of license of news website Rappler for allegedly violating the constitutional provision on 100 percent Filipino ownership of mass media.
Viterbo, an appointee of former President Benigno Aquino III, was supposed to end his seven-year term in March 2021. Celerina Monte/DMS
