Senate turns Guban over to DOJ witness protection program
October 30, 2018
Former Bureau of Customs intelligence agent Jaime Guban has been admitted to the government’s Witness Protection Program, Justice Secretary Menardo Guevarra said Tuesday.
“Yes, Mr. Guban has been admitted into the WPP,” Guevarra said in a text message to reporters. He did not give details on the affidavit given by Guban to the Department of Justice ( DOJ) as a requirement to be admitted into the program.
Guban is considered a "vital witness" in the investigation into the alleged P11 billion worth of shabu shipment that reportedly slipped past the Bureau of Customs. He has been in Senate custody since August.
President Rodrigo Duterte earlier ordered Guban's arrest.
The Senate Blue Ribbon committee chaired by Senator Richard Gordon earlier Tuesday turned over Guban to the DOJ after a hearing on the smuggling of a multibillion peso shabu shipment through the port of Manila. DMS
