BAGUIO CITY – Leo Barbosa, Senator Ronald dela Rosa’s provincial coordinator in Abra was gunned down by a gunman Sunday night in front of his house in San Juan.
Barbosa, a former barangay chairman of Guimba, San Juan, was talking with a cousin at around 8:15 pm when his phone rang prompting him to go out of his home towards his car to receive the call.
A gunshot was heard coming from the house opposite Barbosa's.
Barbosa, shot below his left ear from a caliber 5.56 automatic rifle, was pronounced dead on arrival at the Abra Provincial Hospital, Abra police said.
Abra Governor Ma. Jocelyn Bernos condemned the killing.
Bernos believed “it is an isolated case and it could be a personal issue since the victim was no longer holding any government or elective position for the past seven years”
Barbosa had distributed several thermal scanners and face masks in San Juan and different towns in Abra .
Barbosa is the second former village chief gunned down in Abra in just four days. DMS
