Sinas to continue random drug testing in PNP
November 11, 2020
The new chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Wednesday said he will continue random drug testing among cops after he found 18 policemen using illegal drugs during his one-year stint as National Capital Region police director.
In an interview with reporters, Police General Debold Sinas said he was able to conduct random testing in the Southern Police District (SPD) one day before he became PNP chief.
“One tested positive. So for one year and one month, those who tested positive on our random drug test are 18. Meaning, we still have some members who are lost but this should not low our morale. We will just continue to work,” Sinas said.
He also warned other rogue cops to stop being involved in illegal drugs.
“Police from NCRPO to Caraga to Jolo (and) Batanes… I am giving you a warning, do not do illegal activities. We managed to do it in NCRPO, we were able to run after rogue cops and we will also do it here,” Sinas said.
One of the directives of President Rodrigo Duterte to Sinas is to get rid of corruption in the police force.
Sinas assumed command of the PNP on Tuesday. He is expected to reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 by May 2021. Ella Dionisio/DMS
