Smoke at top floor of Okada Manila promptly put out

Guests and employees of Okada Manila were evacuated after a smoke was detected in the upper floor of the building on Monday morning. A Paranaque Central Fire Station official said a hotel guard smelled something burning around 10:55 a.m. in the ninth floor. The guard then called his partner and they carried a portable fire extinguisher to stop the source of the smoke. Parañaque City fire marshal Superintendent Renato Capuz said one of their fire trucks responded to Okada at 10:55 am after they received a report. Shariza Relova, director of public relations of Okada Manila said in an email to the Daily Manila Shimbun, : “As a standard safety precaution, our security team activated our emergency response procedure and evacuated our guests and team members. An employee of Okada Manila said the smoke was put out 10 minutes after the alarm was activated. Relova said no one was hurt and Okada Manila returned to normal operation. (Alanna Ambi/DMS)
