October 1, 2018
An Army soldier and a member of the Maute Group were killed as soldiers raided their safehouse in Tagoloan town in Lanao del Norte on Sunday night.
Capt. Clint Antipala, spokesman of the Army's 1st Infantry Battalion, said the slain Maute member, Hadji Mambuay, alias Mercury, was among those who were in the siege of Marawi City on May 23, 2018.
"One government soldier was also killed during the encounter," said Antipala. The official withheld the identity of the slain Army soldier, pending the notification of his family of his demise.
Antipala said forces from the Army's 4th Mechanized Infantry Battalion, Tagoloan police and National Bureau of Investigation entered at the Maute Group safehouse in barangay Malimbo around 8:30 p.m.
The team had a warrant for the arrest of Mambuay and Dianalan Dimanatang Imam, alias Papayungan who escaped with other Maute members.
The Maute members fought with the team for about 10 minutes, leading to Mambuay's death and recovery of an M16 rifle, a hand grenade, a magazine, two handheld radios and several bomb components. DMS
