Soldier wounded as troops battled alleged NPAs in Abra

One soldier was wounded after an encounter with alleged members of New People’s Army (NPA) in the province of Abra on Monday.
Lt. Col Isagani Nato, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) Northern Luzon Command spokesman, said based on an initial report troops of Army’s 24th Infantry Battalion encountered the NPA members at the vicinity of Sitio Nagas-asan, Brgy Ud-udiao, Sallapadan tow around 2:45 pm.
Nato said the troops were conducting security patrols when they encountered the rebels.
“The said terrorist group were members of the Agustin Begnalin Command, Kilusang Larangang Gerilya (KLG) North Abra of the Ilocos-Cordillera Regional Party Committee (ICRC) being led by Abdon Siddayao alias Chico, Abdul, Rim,” he said.
Nato said a soldier was wounded while there were undetermined number of casualties on the enemy side.
“There were an undetermined number of casualties on the NPA side while one personnel from the said army unit was wounded in his leg,” he said.
“The Northern Luzon Command (NOLCOM) conducts focused military operations in selected areas of Northern Luzon frequently visited by the remnants of the NPA criminal group, preventing them from sowing terror to the populace and hinder development and progress in the area,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
