Soldiers found looting inside Marawi to be discharged from service: AFP

MARAWI CITY — Soldiers found guilty of looting inside this city will be automatically discharge from government service, a military spokesman said Wednesday. But Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, spokesperson for Joint Task Force Marawi, told reporters a group of civilians were formed to help oversee abandoned properties of displaced civilians as fighting continues between soldiers and Islamic State-inspired terrorists. Herrera said the military has procedures for its personnel on looting but they have no reports pertaining soldiers actually looting. “We have lots of reports received in the level of armed forces but it;s all assumptions. The punishment for such is discharge from the government service,” Herrera said. Herrera said a group called United Marawi comprising of civilians was organized to help authorities look after properties left behind by more than 200,000 displaced civilians. “If they have complaints, you can report to us so we can make actions as soon s possible,” he said.
