Soldiers recover high-powered firearms after clashing with alleged NPAs in Samar

Government troops recovered high-powered firearms following a clash with alleged members of New People's Army (NPA) in Samar province on Wednesday.
Capt. Christopher Badong, civil military operations officer of the 801st Infantry Brigade, said troops of the 87th Infantry Battalion encountered the armed men while responding to a tip from a resident of the presence of the NPA in Barangay Sto. Nino, Paranas muncipality around 9:40 am.
Badong said the 10-minute clash has resulted in the recovery of one AK-47, bandoleer, three long magazines, 27 ammunition, two improvised grenades, cellphones, and subversive documents.
"No casualty on the government side while an undetermined casualty was reported on the terrorist side following the bloodstains found in the area and route of withdrawal," he said.
Brig. General Camilo Ligayo, commander of 801st Brigade said "the Army will continue its offensive against the NPA. We will assure the people of Samar that the Army will use all its resources against the threat group." Robina Asido/DMS
