Some firms in Boracay still discharging waste water: Ano

August 10, 2018

Some establishments in Boracay are still discharging waste water ven if the island is closed for rehabilitation, Interior and Local Government officer-in-charge Eduardo Ano said Friday.

“Boracay has been closed for a long time, but why is waste water still being released?," he said in an interview with reporters on the sidelines of the Special Action Force Memorial Day commemoration in Camp Bagong Diwa, Taguig City.

Ano said it is possible companies are discharging sewage waste at night to avoid being detected. He said divers are trying to find out where these illegal connections are.

“They don't want to avail of sewerage system services. They want to save money,” said Ano.

He expressed confidence the interagency committee tasked to rehabilitate Boracay will remove all  illegal pipelines before the island'is reopened on October 26.

“We are doing good. We are actually in accordance to our schedule,” said Ano.

President Rodrigo Duterte ordered the closure of Boracay in April, describing the prime Philippine tourist spot as a cesspool. DMS
