Some LGUs appealed for quarantine classifications – Palace

Several local government units have appealed before the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases the quarantine measures being implemented in their respective areas, Malacañang said on Monday.

Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque made the statement hours before President Rodrigo Duterte's scheduled public address later Monday after meeting with the IATF on the new quarantine classifications of all the provinces, highly urbanized cities, and independent component cities in the country starting Tuesday, June 16.

But he said no LGU in Metro Manila made an appeal regarding the current general community quarantine being enforced here.

"There was no appeal that came from Metro Manila," Roque said in a virtual press briefing.

He said from prevailing GCQ, Cebu City, which has high cases of coronavirus disease, has appealed to be placed under a stricter modified enhanced community quarantine starting June 16.

He said the LGUs, whose areas are under MGCQ and have asked to be placed under GCQ are Quezon, Apayao, Caraga Region, and Lanao del Sur.

On the other hand, according to Roque, those areas which requested to have "de-escalation" of quarantine classifications were Dagupan City, Batanes, Davao de Oro, Davao del Norte, Davao Oriental, Davao Occidental, and Davao del Sur. Except for Batanes, which is under GCQ, the other areas are under MGCQ.

Those appealing to have a more relaxed classification from GCQ to MGCQ were Pangasinan, Angeles City, Nueva Ecija, Zambales, Pampanga, Cavite, and Cebu province, he said.

"Later when the President makes an announcement, included in his announcement will be the decision and recommendation of the IATF regarding these appeals," he added. Celerina Monte/DMS
