Stocks slightly lower, peso at P53.46:$1

Stocks ended slightly lower while the peso lost ground on Wednesday.

The peso closed at P53.46 against the US dollar from P53.325 on Tuesday. Volume at the foreign exchange market reached $527.3 million from the previous session's $640.85 million.

The Philippine Stock Exchange index closed at 7,830.96, down 13.65 points. In the broader market, there were 81 gainers, 112 decliners and 51 shares unchanged.

Volume rose  to 3.03 billion valued at P6.2 billion from Tuesday's 1.55 billion worth P7.65 billion. Foreigners were net buyers, purchasing P3.1 billion while selling P3.01 billion.

Most active shares were led by Ayala Land, up 1.82 percent to P44.80; Metro Pacific, up 3.16 percent to P5,22; Security Bank, down 1.72 percent to P199.60 and SM Investment Corp., down 0.67 percent to P963.50.  DMS
