July 17, 2018
The Department of Transportation said it expects Japan’s Sumitomo Corp. to start the rehabilitation and maintenance of Metro Rail Transit (MRT3) by August.
“Sumitomo will be coming in next month", said DOTr Secretary Arthur Tugade said in a press conference Tuesday.
He said MRT3 trains may be reduced to 12 from the existing 15 trains during the rehabilitation of MRT3 system.
Transportation Undersecretary for Rails Timothy John Batan said there will be a high level bilateral meeting by August 20 for the loan agreement with Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) to cover the MRT3 maintenance service.
Last May, the DOTr and JICA have agreed on the estimated cost, scope and schedule of the project, which will take 43 months.
JICA will finance the project, amounting to 34.480 billion yen or equivalent to P16.985 billion. DMS
