Task force arrests two Manila police in entrapment operation

Two Manila policemen, who were allegedly extorting money from motorists and taxi drivers from 11 pm to 4 am  were arrested in an entrapment operation Sunday, a statement from the Counter Intelligence Task Force of the Philippine National Police said Monday.

Task force personnel and the Manila District Police arrested SPO2 Rodito Maglayun and PO3 Rowel Candelario, both assigned in Station 9, at the vicinity of Quirino Avenue, Mother Ignacia st., Malate at 3:50 am.

Senior Superintendent Jose Chiquito Malayo, head of the task force, said they received reports, which they validated, that the two policemen would “come out of the dark”, flag down the motorist. “They ask for money,” he said.

Malayo said the two are violating how checkpoints are done. “It has to be well lighted and they are using government vehicles . This case, they come out of a dark area and they come out and stop them.”

The arrested policemen were brought to task force headquarters for documentation and case filing. They were presented for inquest proceeding at Manila Prosecutor's office. Assistant City Prosecutor Reynaldo Tomas Jr recommending filing of information for the crime of robbery extortion against them subject to the approval of the chief inquest prosecutor. DMS
