October 30, 2020
The Philippine government has formed a task force in anticipation for the distribution of vaccines against coronavirus disease to target population, Malacanang said on Friday.
Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque said the creation of the COVID-19 Immunization Program Management Organizational Structure was approved during the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases on Thursday, October 29.
"The creation of a Task Force is to ensure the successful and efficient deployment of COVID-19 vaccines to target population," he said in a statement.
The Department of Health is tasked to lead the task force.
Roque said the IATF directed the DOH to immediately convene the Task Group COVID-19 Immunization Management and establish sub-task groups as necessary.
The task force will be under the National Task Force Against COVID-19.
The government is eyeing to purchase COVID-19 vaccines from China, Russia, and the United States, among others.
The Duterte administration is initially targeting to provide free vaccines once available to the poorest families, soldiers and policemen. Celerina Monte/DMS
