March 20, 2020

The Thai government turned over thousands of dressed chicken to Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) on Friday morning.

Capt. Jonathan Zata, AFP Public Affairs chief, said 5,000 dressed chicken from Chaoren Pokphand Foods (CPF) were received by the AFP through the Embassy of Thailand  in a ceremony in Camp Aguinaldo Friday.

The ceremony was led by AFP Deputy Chief of Staff for Civil Military Operations Major General Edgardo De Leon who accepted the donation from Ambassador of Thailand His Excellency Vasin Ruangprateepsaeng.

Zata said Ruangprateepsaeng was assisted by the Thai Defense and Armed Forces Attaché and head executives from the Thai Company during the ceremony.

He said "the donation will benefit soldiers who are in the frontlines implementing the Enhanced Community Quarantine of Luzon in support to the Inter-Agency Task Force on Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases."

"The dressed chicken will be distributed to the different units in Luzon through the Joint Task Force-National Capital Region," said Zata.

According to its website the "CPF operates integrated agro-industrial and food business, including livestock and aquaculture such as swine, broiler, layer, duck, shrimp, and fish."

AFP Chief of Staff Gen. Felimon Santos Jr. expressed gratitude to Chaoren Pokphand Foods and the government of Thailand for the donation.

"We thank the Chaoren Pokphand Foods, the Government of Thailand through Ambassador Vasing Ruangprateepsang for this kind gesture," Santos said.

"Our men and women on the ground are risking their life in a different, but crucial battle. This will certainly go a long way in sustaining our efforts as an institution and a nation in battling COVID-19," he added.Robina Asido/DMS
