Three alleged NPA officials arrested in Negros Occidental

Three alleged officials of the New People's Army (NPA) were nabbed in a joint military and police operation in Negros Occidental last Thursday, a military official said on Saturday.

2nd Lt. Giselle Pacquiao, acting civil military operations officer of the 79th Infantry Battalion, said they were members of Komiteng Rehiyon-Negros/Cebu/Bohol/Siquijor (KR-NCBS) of the Communist Party of the Philippines-New People’s Army (CPP-NPA).

She said they are Cristell Abordo alias Dulay or Matt, the regional communication and intelligence staff of KR-NCBS; Marydem Forones alias Nancy, Mia or Ayon, the regional intelligence secretary and exeutive committee member of KR-NCBS and Rossine Enyong alias Lemay, Digna, Angel and Mary Joy of Sandatahang Yunit Propaganda) Platoon of  CN1 (Central Negros 1).

Pacquiao said the troops of 79th Infantry Battalion  with the elements of 6th Special Action Battalion of Philippine National Police-Special Action Force and Calatrava municipal police were responding to the reported presence of the rebels when they captured the alleged NPA.

"The local folks were complaining about the presence of NPAs in their barangay, who were in extortion activities and reportedly taking undue advantage of establishing harbor in some of the residences in the area," she said.

"Also captured from their possession are one M14 rifle, three .38 revolvers, four rifle grenades, eight cellular phones, medical supplies and subversive documents," she added

Pacquiao said the three and recovered items are now under the custody of Calatrava municipal police station for proper disposition and filing of appropriate charges.
