Three cops ambushed by alleged NPAs in Oriental Mindoro

Three police officers were injured in an ambush by alleged New People Army ( NPA) members in Oriental Mindoro Tuesday morning.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Aries Faltado, MIMAROPA (Mindoro, Marinduque, Romblon, Palawan) spokesperson, said the incident transpired around 7:45 am along Strong Republic Nautical Highway in Barangay Pasi 2, Socorro, Oriental Mindoro.
Faltado said ambushed were Police Chief Master Sergeant Ivan Fortus, Police Senior Master Sergeant Irene Lazo and Police Corporal Ivy Carmona, all were members of the Pinamalayan Municipal Police Station.
Initial investigation said cops with their chief of police and a barangay chairman were going to Calapan City for a radio interview.
“A loud explosion followed by burst of gunfire were heard at the place of incident, as narrated by said chairman,” he said.
The target of the ambush was the personnel of Pinamalayan MPS but they were able to evade the ambush by driving away.
Though suspects in the incident are still unidentified, they believed these are members of NPA rebel group.
