Three senior officers in shortlist to replace retiring Gamboa as PNP chief
August 9, 2020
Three ranking police officials are in the shortlist of possible successors to Philippine National Police (PNP) chief Gen. Archie Francisco Gamboa, who will retire next month.
Interior and Local Government Secretary Eduardo Ano said they are PNP deputy chief for administration Lt. Gen. Camilo Pancratius Cascolan, deputy chief for operations Lt. Gen. Guillermo Lorenzo Eleazar and directorial staff chief Lt. Gen. Cesar Hawthorne Binag.
Gamboa, President Rodrigo Duterte's third police chief, will reach the mandatory retirement age of 56 on September 2.
Ano said the three-star generals are the top contenders by virtue of their seniority in the police force but Duterte can to choose anyone from the star-ranked officers within the 209,000-strong PNP.
Cascolan is Gamboa's classmate at the Philippine Military Academy Class of 1986.
Cascolan retires on Nov.10, 2020. Eleazar and Binag, who belong to the PMA Class of 1987, will retire next year. DMS
