Total COVID-19 cases surpass 140,000

The Philippines' daily coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases surpassed 140,000 as 4,4444 new cases were reported by the Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday.
Total cases are now 143,749 of which 72 348 are active ones.
Active cases are higher than total recoveries, which are at 68, 997 after 636 patients recovered from COVID-19.
The DOH said 91.3 percent of the active cases were mild while asymptomatic cases were 7.3 percent. Severe cases were 0.6 percent of active cases while critical cases account for 0.7 percent.
The National Capital Region accounted for majority of the new cases with 2,618 followed by Laguna with 233, Cavite 227, Rizal 174 and Bulacan 129.
These five areas are under modified enhanced community quarantine, which began on August 4 to August 18.
Ninety-three deaths from COVID-19 were reported, bringing the total to 2,404. DMS
