Transport secretary joins military reserve force
December 14, 2017
Transportation Secretary Arthur Tugade joined the military reserve force during a ceremony in Camp Aguinaldo last Tuesday.
Col. Edgard Arevalo, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) public affairs chief, said the military welcomed Tugade as he joined the Air Force Reserve Force in a ceremony held at the Department of National Defense.
During the ceremony, Tugade’s rank of lieutenant colonel was put on by General Rey Leonardo Guerrero, Chief of Staff of the Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP), and Defense Secretary Delfin Lorenzana.
“Secretary Tugade is Lt. Col but the point is we are happy that there are people on high places in government, people of prominence that would like to join the AFP as a reservist,” Arevalo said.
“That is a welcome development because as I said it is a voluntary organization and yet people of that stature, of high caliber, high places in government wants to be part of the AFP,” he added.
Arevalo added everyone is welcome to join the reserve force of the Armed Forces of the Philippines.
“Everybody is welcomed, not only Sec. Tugade, not only Sen. Pacquiao or Sen. Legarda but everybody… there are a lot already who have been volunteering,” he said.
Sen. Loren Legarda and Sen. Emmanuel Pacquiao both with the rank of lieutenant colonel were now eligible for promotion to the next higher rank after they graduated from the Command and General Staff Course (CGSC) Class 62 last Tuesday. Robina Asido/DMS
