Troops confiscate more than P10 million worth of smuggled cigarettes

Government troops confiscated more than P10 million worth of smuggled cigarettes in a joint operation in Zamboanga City last Tuesday.
Col. Antonio John Divinagracia, Joint Task Force Zamboanga Commander, said a warehouse of smuggled cigarettes was raided by the government’s forces on Tuesday.
"Our troops from the 74th Infantry Battalion together with our partners from Police Station 8 conducted joint operation which resulted in the seizure of 300 boxes of smuggled cigarettes in Stambak, Barangay Campo Islam, this city," he said.
Divinagracia said the confiscated items cost round P10,125,000.
"The confiscated items were brought to Police Station 8 located in Barangay Sinunuc for documentation and proper turn over to the Bureau of Customs," he said.
Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, WestMinCom head, lauded the government forces for the successful operation.
"Congratulations to the troops of the Joint Task Force Zamboanga for this commendable accomplishment," he said.
"May this success serve as a warning to all those who continue to perpetrate illegal activities such as smuggling," said Sobejana. Robina Asido/DMS
