Troops discover improvised bomb cache in Maguindanao

Government troops discovered an improvised bomb cache during a combat operation in Maguindanao on Tuesday.

Maj. Gen. Diosdado Carreon, commander of Joint Task Force (JTF) Central, said  troops discovered the cache at the vicinity of Barangay Dasawao, Shariff Saidona Mustapha (SSM) at 11am.

“Our troops discovered the cache while they were operating in the marshland barangays of Pikit, North Cotabato and Dasawao, SSM to track and locate a group of fleeing Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters under Daurin Manampan, alias ExMarines, and Katato Samad, following the encounter last February 7 in Barangay Manaulanan, Pikit,” he said.

Maj. Arvin Encinas, spokesman of the Western Mindanao Command, said the troops recovered two complete improvised bomb sets with electrical detonators, blasting caps and one 81mm mortar shell unexploded ordnance. 

He said the recovered items were brought to the Alpha Company, 7th Infantry Battalion headquarters in Barangay Ladtingan, Pikit for safekeeping. 

Following the recovery of the improvised bomb cache, Lt. Gen. Cirilito Sobejana, commander of the Western Mindanao Command “commend the troops for a job well done". 

"Through this successful operation, you were able to thwart our enemies from creating havoc in the area while we sustain our efforts to end terrorism in our area of operations, we call on the civilian community to continuously support our thrust towards the achievement of peace and development,” he added.
