Troops recover high-powered firearms from alleged NPAs in Agusan del Norte

Government troops have recovered high-powered firearms after an encounter with reported New People’s Army (NPA) in Agusan del Norte last Monday.

Capt. Joe Patrick Martinez, Army’s 4th Infantry Division spokesman, said troops of 29th Infantry Battalion encountered the alleged members of NPA Front 16 at the vicinity of Brgy. San Roque , Kitcharao, Agusan del Norte around 4 pm.

“The NPA presence was earlier reported by the residents of the barangay which prompted us to track them”, said Lt. Col. Glen Aynera of the 29th IB.

Martinez said the government forces were able to recover four AK47s, one M16 and one M4 rifles.

“Also recovered were landmines, assorted ammunition, handheld radios, subversive documents, medical supplies, and foodstuffs left by the NPAs in the encounter site,” he said.

Martinez said  Major General Ronald Villanueva, newly-installed 4ID Commander, thanked the community for giving timely information

“I congratulate the troops for successfully addressing this armed group that is terrorizing the people in that peaceful community. The villagers are already fed up with the deceptions and terrorist activities of this group. There will be no let up on our operation,” Villanueva said.

Troops are still conducting pursuit operation against the armed men. Robina Asido/DMS
