Government troops recovered war materiel after an encounter with alleged New People’s Army (NPA) members in Leyte last Tuesday.
1Lt. Jessel Montajes, Army’s 8th Infantry Division public affairs officer, said government troops were conducting security patrols when they encountered around 10 rebels in the vicinity of Brgy. Talisayan, Albuera, Leyte.
“There are no reported casualties on the government troops while undetermined on the enemy side,” she said.
Montajes said the firefight that lasted for about 15 minutes resulted in the recovery of firearms and other war materiel.
These include two cal. 45 pistol; four magazine cal. 45 pistol; one hand grenade; five cell phones; more or less f50 rounds of ammunition; subversive documents; and personal belongings.
“The successful operation of the Army is the result of the shared cooperation of the villagers in the barangay about the presence of the NPA rebels that continue to engage in acts of violence and hostilities endangering the lives and properties of innocent people,” she noted.
Montajes said government forces are pursuing the fleeing attackers. Robina Asido/DMS
