Two alleged members of local terrorist group killed in South Cotabato

Two alleged members of a local terrorist group were killed during a law enforcement operation in South Cotabato on Wednesday morning.
The elements of the 5th Special Forces Battalion and Surallah Municipal Police Station conducted the operation at the vicinity of Barangay Lamsugod, Surallah at 10:15 am.
Maj. Gen. Juvymax Uy, JTF Central Commander, said the operation was conducted against the lawless terrorist group leader identified as Joeffrey Nilong alias Momoy.
“Jeoffrey Nilong’s group is responsible for the series of bombings in Maguindanao and Sultan Kudarat,” he said.
Uy said the troops were approaching the area when they were fired upon by their target which forced them to retaliate.
"A short firefight ensued which resulted in the neutralization of Momoy and his younger brother Amen Nilong, who was also a member of the local terrorist group," he said.
Uy said the military and police recovered four improvised explosive devices, five improvised blasting caps, one improvised grenade, one remote control, six motorcycle alarms, one battery connector, two light testers, and one complete circuit soldering lid from the backpack of Momoy.
Maj. Gen. Corleto Vinluan, Jr., WestMinCom chief, said "strengthened collaboration and harmonized efforts are the basics for a successful operation."
Following the clash. the personnel of the 5th Special Forces Battalion brought the bodies to Villanueva Funeral Homes while the recovered items were handed over to the crime scene team for proper disposition. Robina Asido/DMS
