Two alleged motorcycle thieves dead in shootout with police

Two persons who allegedly stole a motorcycle died in a shootout with pursuing policemen in San Rafael, Bulacan early Tuesday morning.
Brig. Gen Alexander Tagum, director of Philippine National Police- Highway Patrol Group (PNP-HPG), said their operatives received a voice alarm from San Rafael Municipal Police Station a motorcycle was stolen around 3am in Barangay Sampaloc.
Police launched a dragnet within the possible exit and escape routes of suspects.
Around 5am, police operatives flagged down and directed a motorcycle, which apparently was stolen, to stop but the suspects fired at the responding HPG personnel, hitting the front bumper of their mobile patrol car, and sped off towards Brgy. San Roque.
Authorities were forced to retaliate against the armed suspects which resulted to their death. The stolen motorcycle was recovered.
“Neutralizing the suspects was a last resort, but the HPG will not hesitate to defend themselves against criminal elements and ensure the security and safety of the community,” said Tagum.
Seized from the suspects were two handguns.
