Two people died, including a police officer, while another cop was injured in a shooting incident in front of a police station in Caloocan City last Tuesday.
The Northern Police District (NPD) said Corporals Dexter Rey Teves and Rex Graham Abigan were conducting Oplan Sita in front of Sub-Station 7 located along T. Samson Road, Silanganan Subdivision in Barangay-167, Llano around 2:20 pm when they flagged down a motorcycle after its driver was not wearing a helmet.
The driver immediately drew out his gun and shot at the police officers, hitting Teves in his abdomen. Abigan grabbed the firearm of the suspect but was shot in his right foot.
Another police officer went out of the station and saw Abigan and the driver grappling for the firearm.
The responding cop shot the driver.
Meanwhile, the backrider who tried to escape was captured and mauled by bystanders.
The two police officers were brought to the hospital. Teves was declared dead on arrival by the attending physician while Abigan underwent surgery.
The arrested driver was put into police custody and found in his possession were one grenade and six plastic sachets of suspected shabu. Ella Dionisio/DMS
