Two farmers struck by lightning die

Two farmers died while another one was wounded as lightning struck them in a rice field in Zamboanga Sibugay on Thursday night.
Chief Insp. Helen Galvez, chief of the regional police public affairs office, said the farmers were Ranilo Navarro Sr., 49, and Michael Castillo, 27, both residents of Brgy. Bulawan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay and Eric Labao Dela Cruz, 22, a resident of Brgy. Nanan of the same municipality.
She said the incident occurred in the vicinity of Brgy. Bulawan, Payao, Zamboanga Sibugay around 6:30 pm.
Galvez said based on initial report the farmers were hit by lightning while taking shelter because of heavy rain.
He said Navarro and Castillo died while Dela Cruz sustained severe injuries.
Galvez said Dela Cruz was rushed to Lancheta Hospital in Imelda, Zamboanga Sibugay for treatment. Robina Asido/DMS
