Two jeepney groups want minimum fare raised to P10
September 4, 2018
Two jeepney groups appealed on Tuesday to the Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) to increase the minimum fare by one peso to P10 due to rising fuel prices.
Zenaida Maranan, president of the Federation of Jeepney Operators and Drivers Association of the Philippines (Fejodap), said the minimum fare of P9 for the first four kilometers is no longer applicable with diesel more than P45 for every liter.
She said the provisional fare increase of P1 imposed by the LTFRB last July was erased by the increase of P1.20 per litter of diesel.
“The minimum fare should be P12 but the passengers have to support their families," said Maranan in an interview over dzMM.
Maranan said the daily take home pay for drivers is now just at P250.
Jojo Martin, vice president of the the Pangkalahatang Sanggunian Manila & Suburbs Drivers Association or Pasang Masda, asked the public to understand their plight. DMS
