Two Marikina cops detained for raping female inmates

March 31, 2020

Two Marikina cops were detained for allegedly raping two female inmates inside a police station last March 29, according to the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Tuesday.

In a press briefing, NCRPO chief Major General Debold Sinas said the cops were Patrolman Arnold Geroy and Patrolman Sonny Maruzzo, both assigned at the Station Special Operations Unit.

Initial investigation disclosed around 5am when policemen allegedly raped the two female suspects after conducting a custodial debriefing.

The suspects were arrested for illegal drugs.

“What is good here is they (policemen) were arrested by their co-officers… After the two policemen released the female suspects (from Station Special Operations Unit office), when they arrived at the custodial facility, the women told the duty jail guard about the incident, and he immediately informed the chief of police resulting into the arrest of the cops,” he said.

He added the two cops admitted to their crime.

“The two admitted that they did that but according to them, the two women agreed. However, what they did is still wrong,” he said.

Sinas said the two cops were disarmed, underwent inquest proceeding and are in jail for violating Republic Act of 8353 or Anti Rape Law.

“I am dismayed. Our authority as law enforcers can never be and should never be an instrument of any form of abuse. If proven with guilt, necessary sanctions will be justly imposed to these policemen for I will never tolerate crimes like this under my watch,” he said.

Sinas assured the NCRPO will continue with their relentless intent to dismiss erring policemen assigned in Metro Manila.

“It’s just very frustrating that despite everything there are still some erring cops who have nothing good to do… we take this out to inform everyone we don’t tolerate this kind of policemen whether peaceful time, crisis time or emergency time.. as long as you committed violations, we should arrest and apprehend you,” he said.
