Two NCRPO cops, one employee positive for drug use
September 3, 2020
Two police officers were found positive for illegal drugs during random testing last August 30, the National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) said on Thursday.
NCRPO chief Major General Debold Sinas said among the 260 personnel who joined the Random Drug Test, two cops and one contractual employee showed results for the presence of methamphetamine hydrochloride or shabu.
Sinas said the two cops were patrolmen Robert Buenavente and Marcos Laggui.
The NCRPO chief directed the relief of Buenavente and Laggui and their issued firearms were recalled with all government issued documents.
“Coordination with Integrity Monitoring and Enforcement Group (IMEG-NCR) is also ongoing to determine their drug source, their network and companions,” he said.
Sinas also ordered the dismissal of the contractual employee identified as drug user and monitoring of other personnel suspected to be using illegal drugs.
He said NCRPO’s surprise random drug test has been an effective tool in their internal cleansing program.
From October 12, 2019 to September 1, 2020, a total of 20,231 personnel were tested and 16 police personnel were found positive for illegal drugs.
Sinas assured that appropriate charges were filed against all policemen and follow-up investigations are being conducted. Ella Dionisio/DMS
