Two persons who allegedly placed bomb beside barangay action center nabbed

Government troops captured two suspects who allegedly laid an improvised explosive device (IED) at a ticket booth near a barangay action team outpost in Shariff Aguak, Maguindanao.

Capt. Arvin Encinas,  the 6th Infantry Division public affairs office chief, said arrested were Esmael Abdulkarem, 44, a resident of Shariff Aguak, and Boy Kamid, 52, a resident of Datu Hoffer, Maguindanao.

Encinas said the two suspects were caught by the Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team (BPAT) while placing an IED at the vicinity of Shariff Aguak Friday night.

“Members of the BPAT witnessed four men laying a suspected IED and reported the incident to Shariff Aguak Vice Mayor Akmhad Ampatuan,” he said.

“The Vice Mayor and the BPAT members responded immediately and apprehended two men armed with caliber .45mm pistol, while the other two suspects managed to flee riding a motorcycle going the opposite directions,” he added.

Encinas said after the arrest, the Army’s Explosive and Ordnance Division (EOD) defused the IED placed in a small box at a ticket booth beside a Barangay Peacekeeping Action Team outpost.

“The team from 2nd Mechanized Infantry Battalion and 57th Infantry Battalion cordoned the ticketing booth to secure the area from the civilians,” he said.

Encinas said the IED components includes hand grenade fragmentation delay MK2 and 60mm mortal without fuse and tail fin.

He said the apprehended suspects were placed under the custody of municipal police station of Shariff Aguak for proper disposition. Robina Asido/DMS
