Two policemen abducted by alleged NPAs in Surigao del Norte

Two policemen were abducted by suspected members of the  New People’s Army (NPA) in Surigao del Norte on Monday.

Supt. Lemuel Gonda, Northern Mindanao regional police spokesman, said they were PO2 Alfredo Lauro Degamon Jr. and PO2 John Paul Mondaya Doverte, both from the Placer Municipal Police Station.

Gonda said based on initial report the policemen manned an outpost when they were abducted by undetermined number of armed men believed to be members of NPA along the national highway in Brgy. Bad-as, Placer around 1:40 pm.

“PO2 Degamon Jr. and PO2 Doverte were forced to board inside a van and were brought by the said armed men to the mountainous area of Brgy Mabini, Placer, Surigao del Norte,” he said.

Gonda said during the pursuit operation the government forces recovered the two Starex van in Sitio Alimatok, Mabini, Placer.

He also noted all the line units of the Northern Mindanao police regional office were alerted and directed to conduct checkpoint operations in coordination with their military counterparts.

The Police Public Safety Company, Surigao del Norte Provincial Police Office and the Philippine Army’s 30th Infantry Battalion are conducting pursuit operations against the perpetrators. Robina Asido/DMS
