Typhoon “Rosita” weakens into severe tropical storm

Typhoon "Rosita" weakened into a severe tropical storm as it moves towards the West Philippine Sea, the Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) said Tuesday.
In its 7 pm bulletin, "Rosita" was estimated at 145 kilometers northwest of Dagupan City, Pangasinan moving west at 30 kilometers per hour. It had winds of 110 kilometers per hour and gusts of up to 135 kilometers per hour.
Pangasinan, La Union, Benguet and Ilocos Norte are under Tropical Cyclone Warning Signal Number 2, said the Pagasa bulletin. Other cyclone warning signals elsewhere are lowered, added Pagasa.
It will possibly leave the Philippine area of responsibility, Pagasa said.
Moderate to heavy rains directly associated with the severe tropical storm over the western section of northern and central Luzon.
Residents in these areas, especially those living near river channels, in low-lying areas and mountainous areas, are advised to take appropriate actions against possible flooding and landslides, coordinate with the local disaster risk reduction and management offices, said Pagasa. DMS
