Up to court if Misuari liable for reportedly keeping Susukan: PNP
August 17, 2020
The chief of the Philippine National Police (PNP) on Monday said it will be up to the court if Moro National Liberation Front (MNLF) founding chairman Nur Misuari will be held accountable for reportedly keeping Abu Sayyaf sub-leader Abduljahid "Edang" Susukan.
“As to the possible accountability of Misuari, it will be upon the appreciation of the courts whether there is such a thing or none,” Police General Archie Gamboa said in his virtual briefing.
“These are circumstances that would be based upon the appreciation of the court or maybe of theDepartment of Justice (DOJ) based on the circumstances,” he added.
Susukan, one of the most wanted terrorists in the country, was turned over by Misuari in his home in Davao City to the police Thursday night.
According to news reports, Susukan arrived in Davao City last April.
Gamboa said it’s up to the prosecution to determine what offense Misuari made when he allegedly did not tell authorities that Susukan is under his custody.
“We still have to ask if the city director of Davao police this question to Misuari but as of yet we don't have any information (why he allegedly kept Susukan),” he said. Ella Dionisio/DMS
