Urban poor group denies occupying homes for police, military in Rizal
June 15, 2018
The leader of urban poor group Kalipunan ng Damayang Mahihirap said Friday their members did not occupy idle housing units for soldiers and police officers in Rodriguez, Rizal on Wednesday.
Kadamay national chairperson Gloria Arellano said their members “guarded” some houses which she claimed were handed over to beneficiaries who do not belong to their group.
Police said at least 100 members of the group entered the government-funded housing project early Wednesday.
Arellano said their members were worried they would lose their slots as no one from the National Housing Authority (NHA) talked to them.
She said initially around 700 units were available it was gone down to 200.
Arellano made the statement as President Rodrigo Duterte warned members of Kadamay not to occupy
government housing projects or he will order the police Special Action Force against them.
In 2017, Kadamay occupied housing units in Pandi, Bulacan but Duterte then allowed them to stay. DMS
