The United States Coast Guard may help the Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) improve its capability through training and expert subject matter exchanges.
Capt. Armand Balilo, PCG spokesman, said this was discussed during the visit of US Coast Guard Admiral Karl Schultz at PCG headquarters Monday where he paid a courtesy call to Admiral Elson Hermogino.
"Earlier, they talked about how the USCG can help in the aspect of human resource development like training, subject matter expert exchange on law enforcement, anti-drugs operations and anti-terrorist activities," Balilo said.
"The conduct of joint patrol was not mentioned but the US is consistent on their support on the freedom navigation," he added.
Balilo said Schultz also went to see Vice Admiral Joel Garcia of the National Coast Watch Center within the PCG headquarters.
He said Schultz was briefed on current activities of the PSG.
"Admiral Schultz expressed his gratitude for the warm welcome extended to him today and last Saturday when he was in Puerto Princesa to visit USCG Cutter Straton during the maritime drill 'Sama Sama'," Balilo said
Balilo said Schultz toured BRP Tubbataha, the first Multi-Role Response Vessel of PCG from Japan. Robina Asido/DMS
