Widow’s death in Paranaque likely from robbery: police
March 20, 2020
The National Capital Region Police Office (NCRPO) on Friday said they are looking at robbery as possible motive in the killing of a 74- year old widow in Parañaque City and ruled out that it is looting due to the one-month enhanced community quarantine.
In a statement, NCRPO said the Parañaque City Police is looking closely at the death of Sonia Moral inside her home in Marcelo Green Village, Barangay Marcelo Green.
“The police ruled out that this is not a case related to enhanced community quarantine since the suspect/s appears to be an experienced criminal,” it said.
According to initial investigation, the crime was discovered by a neighbor when Moral was not responding to her calls. This prompted her to call police around 10 pm last Thursday.
Based on crime scene operatives, Moral suffered 30 stab wounds and the estimated time of her death was between 3 pm to 7 pm.
The victim was living modestly and being looked after by a neighbor.
Police said the relatives told them Moral does not keep much cash and valuables but pieces of fake jewelry were found scattered.
“No suspect has been identified but it appears that the victim was being watched for quite some time and (the suspect) seized the opportunity that she's alone,” the report said.
Authorities are eyeing robbery as possible motive. They have yet to recovered the weapon used by the suspect. Ella Dionsio/DMS
