Workers in MECQ areas want cash aid
August 3, 2020
The labor sector is calling on the Duterte administration to provide affected workers with a fresh round of cash aid.
In a statement Monday, Partido Manggagaawa chairman Rene Magtubo said :Now that President Duterte has imposed MECQ on Mega Manila, the millions of workers to be affected need a wage subsidy."
"The 'no work, no pay' policy during the start of the MECQ will mean hunger for millions of workers in Mega Manila," he added.
Magtubo said those workers who have yet to receive any cash aid since the start of the pandemic should be prioritized.
On Sunday night, Duterte said the National Capital Region, Bulacan, Rizal, Cavite, and Laguna will be under MECQ starting Tuesday until August 18.
This was prompted by the call of medical societies for NCR to be placed under ECQ for at least two weeks to allow the healthcare system to recover and for the government to reassess its strategy versus COVID-19. DMS
