Nagano- A Japanese summary court on Friday ordered Egyptian sumo wrestler Osunaarashi to pay a fine of 500,000 yen for driving a car without a license.
The 26-year-old wrestler paid the fine immediately. The order from Nagano Summary Court came after public prosecutors filed a summary indictment against Osunaarashi earlier on Friday for violating the road traffic law.
Osunaarashi was charged with driving a car without a license on three occasions in Nagano Prefecture, central Japan, last month.
The wrestler caused a car collision in the prefecture on Jan. 3. No injuries were reported.
According to investigation sources, Osunaarashi initially denied that he was at the wheel but later admitted the allegation.
Police confirmed that the wrestler was driving the car, based on security camera footage and other evidence, the sources said.
Osunaarashi told the Japan Sumo Association on Jan. 21, when the matter came to light, that his wife was driving at the time of the accident. Jiji Press
