Tokyo- The prices of general admission tickets for competition events at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics will start at 2,500 yen, with 130,000 yen the maximum, the organizing committee announced Friday.

The Tokyo Organizing Committee of the Olympic and Paralympic Games also said that the highest price for opening ceremony tickets will be 300,000 yen.

The prices were included in an outline of ticket prices released the same day by the committee.

The committee plans to decide the details of ticket prices for each event and event date in the future. Ticket sales in Japan will begin in spring next year through a dedicated website and at stores in 2020.

The committee has set around five price ranges for tickets to see the opening ceremony on July 24, 2020, with prices starting at 12,000 yen.

Tickets for the closing ceremony on Aug. 9 will be between 12,000 yen and 220,000 yen.

Several price ranges were also set for competition events.

The lowest ticket price for soccer, rugby, softball, weightlifting and four other sporting events will be 2,500 yen.

Athletics events will have the highest top price for all competition events, at 130,000 yen. The maximum ticket price is expected to be on the days of the men's 100-meter sprint.

The highest price of tickets for swimming and basketball will also go over 100,000 yen, while tickets for baseball will cost between 4,000 yen and 67,500 yen.

Only ticket prices for surfing events were still undecided as of Friday.

The committee will offer special tickets costing 2,020 yen for groups of children, elderly people and others.

It also hopes to sell expensive tickets with added features, such as food and drink services, aiming to work out details by the end of this year.

A plan submitted by Tokyo when it was bidding to host the 2020 Games said that it would prepare 7.8 million tickets at the Tokyo Olympics.

The committee said that it will be able to offer over half of all tickets at 8,000 yen or under.

People will need to register to a special website to apply for tickets, which they will receive in spring 2020 or later after purchase.

An outline of ticket prices for the 2020 Paralympics will be released in August and ticket sales will start next summer. Jiji Press
