July 17, 2019

After almost a decade of guarding the province of Palawan including the disputed islands and features in Spratlys, the 12th Marine Battalion has  returned to their headquarters in Taguig City on Monday.

Capt. Felix Serapio, Philippine Marines spokesman, said the 12th Marine Battalion of the Philippine Marine Corps set foot on Marine Barracks Rudiardo Brown, Fort Bonifacio.

“The battalion was welcomed by no less than the Flag Officer in Command, Philippine Navy, Vice Admiral Robert Empedrad together with the commandant, Philippine Marine Corps. Major Gen. Alvin Parreno,” he said.

Serapio said the 12th Marine Battalion will undergo the battalion retraining and refurbishing program of the corps.

”The 12 th Marine Battalion was formally activated on 14 April 2010. The unit was deployed on the island of Palawan to secure the peace and order of the province,” he said.

“These Marines were also deployed in the Spratly Islands and BRP Sierra Madre which ran aground in 1999 on Ayungin Shoal,” he noted.

“Conducting different kinds of military, internal security, law enforcement and civil-military operations in Palawan, the Marines gained appreciation from the locals. The unit replaced the newly-retrained and refurbished MBLT 8 which was sent to Sulu to combat terrorists last June 28,” he added. Robina Asido/DMS
