1,665 GCTA-freed prisoners surrender: DOJ
September 19, 2019
The Department of Justice ( DOJ) on Thursday night said 1,665 convicts who had been released surrendered to authorities.
''As of 8:00 pm today, 1,665 prematurely released PDL (persons deprived of liberty) have been surrendered and are now in custody of the BuCor( Bureau of Corrections),'' said Justice Undersecretary Markk Perete.
Perete said the DOJ will send a new list of released convicts to the Department of the Interior and Local Government as its guide to rearrest those who will fail to turn themselves in by Thursday midnight.
The original BuCor list contained names of 1,914 convicts of heinous crimes who had been released after their sentences were shortened by good conduct time allowances (GCTA), or deductions to a person's time in prison.
The DOJ said Monday it was cleaning up the list of prisoners given with GCTA credits. DMS
