26,000 Volunteer Applicants for 2020 Games Not Registered Yet
January 8, 2019
Tokyo--The 2020 Tokyo Olympics and Paralympics organizing committee said Monday that a total of 26,000 volunteer applicants have not been registered yet due to online registration problems amid heavy traffic.
The committee will make contact with those affected and ask them to complete necessary procedures by Jan. 16. The registration process closed Dec. 21 last year.
Applicants were supposed to get an email to complete the registration process after filling in a form on the committee's website.
But a surge in accesses just before the deadline led to problems such as failures to send such emails.
The committee reported on Dec. 26 that 9,350 applicants had not been registered. The latest announcement boosted the number of those affected by some 17,000. Jiji Press
