A magnitude 5.7 earthquake hit Zambales Monday afternoon according to Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs).
The quake, tectonic in origin occurred around 5:11 pm northeast of Castillejos town in Zambales. Phivolcs, in its bulletin, said damage and aftershocks are expected.
Intensity Five was felt in San Felipe, Zambales and Quezon City.
Presidential Communications Operations Secretary Martin Andanar and other employees, including members of the press, holding office at the New Executive Building in Malacanang hurriedly left the building.
The security guard of the four-storey building immediately blew the whistle and turned on the alarm so people inside the structure could go out.
Some staff said they initially went under the table to secure themselves.
But as the jolt continued, they decided to go out.
About 100 people who have been holding office at the NEB converged in front of the building near the flag pole.
While they were outside the building, the quake continued for about 30 seconds. Cristina Eloisa Baclig, Celerina Monte/DMS
