5 soldiers wounded in Marawi encounter with Maute Group

Five government troops were wounded in an encounter with around 15 Maute Group members in Marawi City on Tuesday afternoon. Lt. Col. Jo-ar Herrera, Army’s 1st Infantry Division Spokesman said based on initial report the troops encountered the Maute Group members in Brgy. Basak in Marawi City around 2 pm. Herrera said the troops conducted operation against the terrorist group in response to the reported presence of the terrorist group in the area. Herrera said there are reports about the presence of ASG leader Isnilon Hapilon in the encounter. Hapilon was reportedly injured in a military airstrike operation in Lanao del Sur early this year. Brigadier General Restituto Padilla, Armed Forces of the Philippines (AFP) spokesman, said they “received reliable information on Hapilon and a number of his cohorts. (Robina Asido/DMS)
