523 convicts freed under GCTA surrender to authorities: PNP

The Philippine National Police ( PNP) on Wednesday said 523 convicts released under the Good Conduct Time Allowance Law (GCTA) surrendered to the authorities.
According to data from PNP, 321 out of the 523 surrenderees were turned over to the Bureau of Corrections, a day before the deadline for 15-day ultimatum set by President Rodrigo Duterte.
Authorities added that 391 heinous crime convicts who surrendered are not included in the list of the Bureau of Corrections.
Most of the convicts came from Mimaropa (Mindoro- Marinduque- Romblon- Palawan) with a total of 98, 42 from Zamboanga region, 32 from Cagayan Valley region, 23 from Ilocos Region, 18 from Central Luzon, 17 from Bicol region, 16 from Central Visayas, 14 each from National Capital Region and Northern Mindanao region, 13 from Cordillera region, 11 from Calabarzon (Cavite-Laguna-Rizal-Quezon), eight from Soccsksargen (South Cotabato- Cotabato- Sultan Kudarat- Sarangani- General Santos City) region, six from Eastern Visayas, five from Caraga region, and four from Western Visayas region.
The highest number of heinous crime surrenderees are those convicted with murder and rape at 151 and 147.
